We Remember
SIGURDSON, Carol Thora
—
Passed away peacefully on August 16, 2015, at the Kelowna General Hospital. Carol is predeceased by her parents, Mundi and Mary Sigurdson, brother Lorne, her first husband, Fred Gudmundson, and their son, Fred. She is survived by her husband, Mathew Swan, sisters Brenda and Charlene, son Darren Gudmundson, grandchildren Darcy, Arron, Leif, and Grace, and Matthew’s three sons and five grandchildren. Carol worked for the University of Manitoba and later on for UNBC in Prince George, where she met Matthew. She was an avid reader, gardener, bridge player, and was also committed to advancing socialist ideals. Carol was a wonderful cook who loved to share her food with others. She maintained an extensive network of friends from Winnipeg, Saskatchewan, and BC, several of whom travelled to spend time with her before her passing. Carol was a very genuine person, and her family and friends, especially her grandchildren, greatly appreciated the attention she gave to each of them. She will be buried next to her parents in October 2015 at the Pioneer Cemetery in Mozart, Saskatchewan. The family would also like to thank the Acute Care staff for their empathy and kindness. If you wish to send a condolence, post photos or share a memory, please scroll down the page to the area called “Share Your Condolences.”

Carol, Fred and the two boys were close friends of ours when we lived in Sutherland, a railway town now part of Saskatoon. We worked together on many democratic projects. For us she will always be remembered as a very strong advocate for the rights of women. She made a great contribution and was loved and admired by all who knew her.
