We Remember
STUNELL, William Albert “Bill”
December 8, 1929 — December 3, 2024
William “Bill” passed away on December 3, 2024, in Kelowna, BC. Born in Calgary, Alberta, he lived and worked most of his life there until 2016 when he and his wife Margaret moved to Kelowna.
Bill is survived by Margaret, his loving spouse of 72 years; his daughter Debra (Paul) Pypers; and his sister Marion Van Tighem. He was predeceased by his son, Douglas “Doug” Stunell, and siblings Helen Garnett and Charlie Stunell.
While living in Calgary, Bill was very involved with the Salvation Army. With his powerful bass voice, he sang with the church choir for many years. He was extremely talented and could play a variety of brass instruments. He taught numerous young people, followed years later by their children, to play instruments in the junior band and then the senior band. Over the years, he also taught music classes at the Salvation Army camp at Pine Lake. He was affectionately called “Uncle Bill” by many.
Bill will be greatly missed by his friends, family, and extended family.
Memorial service details will be determined at a later date. If friends so desire, donations may be made directly to The Salvation Army Glenmore Temple Senior Band: 921 – 68 Avenue SW, Calgary, AB, T2V 0N7. E-transfer to Jamie.park@salvationarmy.ca.

We will miss ‘Uncle Bill’ very much. His wit, his love for family and those that he treated like family. He has left a tremendous legacy of music in many lives but also shared his faith and love for His Lord. While we cannot be with you in person, we are grieving with you in our hearts. Much love to Marg and Debbie, John and Dot
We will always remember his quite wit, humour, and welcoming personality. I was fairly new to Calgary when first met your parents Debbie, your mom and add were so welcoming and your dad had us laughing with his wit and humour, he made me feel like part of the family. He will always be in our hearts. Sending our deepest condolences, love and hugs Isabel & Terry
My wife and I were saddened to learn of “Uncle Bill’s” promotion to glory. Bill was integral of me becoming a bandsman in the Salvation Army. He led me thru Junior band and many Band camos at Pine lake. Every time we saw him when we came to Glenmore Temple he always had time to talk to us in depth. I grew up knowing his and Margaret’s son Doug and also Debbie. Both my wife Shelly and myself wish to send our deepest sympathies out to Margaret and Debbie at this time of loss in their family. Know that Bill is in the place he has always wanted to go and with his Lord and Master.
During our 6 happy years at Glenmore Temple in Calgary, Bill was a solid supporter of our ministry. His Christian leadership as Corps Sergeant Major was invaluable. Bill’s humour and kindnesses are not forgotten. Our sincere condolences to Marg and her family.
so sorry to hear of ‘Uncle’ Bill’s passing which brings back many memories of our interactions in Calgary. Much sympathy to Margaret and family, with prayers of thankfulness for Bill’s life and impact with his faith and his acceptance of all he met.
We were sad to learn of your father’s passing. Our deepest condolences to you and your mom.
