We Remember
TSAI, I-Chen “Gwen”
—
It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce the passing of I-Chen “Gwen” Tsai, our beloved family, friend, and colleague, on June 18, 2020, in Kelowna, BC, at the age of 30.
Born in Kaohsiung City, Taiwan on November 21, 1989, I-Chen grew up in Taiwan. She finished her university degree with a scholarship in 2013 and earned her master’s degree in Luxury Marketing in Lille, France. In 2012, I-Chen met her lifetime friend Katrina in Taiwan. She bought her very first house in Kelowna, BC, Canada in 2015, dreaming to start a family after finishing her studies. In 2018, I-Chen moved to Canada and started her life with Katrina running a restaurant business together.
I-Chen was a very neat person. She had a great heart and was always caring for people around her. She brought warmth to friends and families’ hearts by always caring about the details that others wouldn’t have noticed. She was thankful for her family’s support in getting the education she desired and always had her parents in mind. She was self-disciplined and only showed the best part of her in front of everyone. She treated people around her with an open mind and extreme understanding.
I-Chen enjoyed music, loved leather crafting, and travelling. I-Chen had her footprints all over Europe, North America, and Asia. I-Chen loved the earth, always bringing her own shopping bags, reusing paper trays, using the same things again and again, bringing new value to things that people could never think of. She would always say “ The earth is dying, and we should do something!”.
All memories she left behind were the memories to cherish. We will carry on our life with the love and support she unconditionally gave us during the brief time that I-Chen was on earth. The lessons she taught us will never be forgotten and her love would always be kept in our hearts.
She leaves behind her loving family: her parents Pin Tsai and Shu-Huei Tsai Lu, her brother Tsung-Yu Tsai. Her best friend Katrina Lee will also miss her dearly. Katrina’s mom Hsiao-Lee Chen always considered I-Chen her daughter and Kurtis was her favorite brother-in-law.

I am so sad to hear that Gwen has passed. I am a customer of her restaurant, Ume. It was always a pleasure to see her and she always made my day brighter with her kind and happy way. Even though we didn’t know each other outside of her business, she had a way of making me feel like she was so happy to see me, which made me feel special – such a rare and special gift these days. She will be missed. My condolences to Katrina, her family and friends.

Dear I-Chen’s loved ones,
We were very saddened to hear of I-Chen’s passing. Our family and I-Chen’s have been friends for many years, and it has been a joy to know I-Chen and spend some time with her. I have particularly memorable and fond memories of visiting Disneyland and Universal Studios with I-Chen when she visited California. Although we didn’t know each other well, she was such a warm and fun personality. She and all of you are in our thoughts.
