TURNER, Irene

1926 – 2023
Irene Mabel Turner (née Watson) was called to be with her Lord and Savior at the age of 96 on February 7, 2023. Irene was predeceased by her husband, Tommy Turner, and heir infant daughter, Donna.
Irene was born in Alberta and in her late teens she travelled to the Okanagan to visit her sister, Muriel, and to work at the Okanagan Center packing house. During one of these visits she met her future husband, Tommy of Grandview Bench, B.C. In 1947 they were married, and moved to Oyama in 1950 with their infant daughter Cherrie. They raised their family of 4 children on Pretty Road, in Winfield. In 1961, they bought farmland in Oyama, where they ran a mixed farm of orchards and cattle.
Irene was a gentle, kind and hospitable lady who enjoyed sharing her home and meals with many visitors, family, and friends. Irene was active in what is now the Lake Country Community church for over 50 years. Teaching Sunday School, Girls Club, leading the Women’s Missionary Society, and acting as Treasurer for many years. She lived out her life in Lake Country, supported by her youngest daughter.
Irene is survived by her 4 children, 8 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren, plus nieces and nephews: Cherrie (Gerry) Takenaka, Chandelle (Doug) Micklich, Rheanne (Dan) Garrett, Stan (Lori) Takenaka, Kevin (Rardi) Takenaka Tom (Phyllis) Turner, Carmen (Jeremy) Kinniburgh, Colin (Kristi) Turner, Philip (Krista) Turner Gloria Turner Richard (Endang) Turner, Tyaz Turner.
A Graveside Service and Celebration of Life will be held in April 2023, with dates to be announced.
The family wishes to recognize and thank the Professionals and Staff of Interior health, Kelowna General Hospital, Hospice House Kelowna, Emergency Services of Lake Country, and Springfield Funeral Home.
