We Remember

ZYDERVELD, Henry John “John”

July 2, 1961 — January 2, 2025

Born on July 2, 1961, in Red Deer, AB, John Zyderveld, at the age of 63, passed away unexpectedly, and he went to be with the Lord on January 2, 2025, in Kelowna, BC.

John is lovingly remembered by his children, Christopher (Selina Metez) and Leslie (Riley Carruthers); his granddaughter, Ruby Carruthers, born January 1, 2025; and his brother, Leonard (Doreen) Zyderveld. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. John was predeceased by his parents, Jack and Henrika Zyderveld.

John spent his early years in Alberta, moving to Kelowna at the age of 12, where he grew to love the Okanagan Valley. A true outdoorsman at heart, he enjoyed fishing, downhill skiing, and camping, and embraced an active, athletic lifestyle. He appreciated life’s simple pleasures and often dreamed of living closer to nature, away from modern distractions.

Professionally, John worked as a Fisheries Technician, a role that allowed him to combine his passion for the natural world with his career.

He will be fondly remembered for his humour, including his lighthearted favourite phrase, “Wooden shoes; wooden head; wooden listen!”
